About eLearning Ontario

I started this blog because I feel the issues here are better suited to their own platform than mixed in with my usual ramblings on my normal blog, and because I want people looking for information about experiences with Ontario online education to be able to find this page without all my personal material mixed in.

Several years ago my daughter was listed as a student who requires extra attention and challenges in school because, while she’s not “gifted”, she is a very hard worker. I continously found my efforts to help her in school being thwarted by the very school system that is supposed to be helping her. Until I went looking for outside solutions - online courses that allow her to take additional courses and keep her challenged while still working towards her high school diploma.

The majority of this blog is specific to Ontario High School eLearning, although items of interest from around the world and across Canada do catch my eye and I’ll report on them also.

My son was identified in grade school as a special needs student. As a result of this, a teacher’s aide has been assigned to him every step of the way.

When time came for him to go to high school, we were told in no uncertain terms that he would not succeed - he could not succeed and should be enrolled elsewhere.

Well, he has managed to pass the provincial exams, he has all the prerequisites to graduate, except for one math credit. This past semester, he was given no teacher - let alone a teacher’s aide — NO teacher. He was given the material and told to plug away. No motivation, no support! Needless to say, he is still missing one math credit.

Looking for help!
